Suneet Singh Tuli is the founder and CEO of DataWind Inc. (TSX: DW), the maker of the UbiSlate/Aakash2 tablet computer, the world’s most affordable tablet at $35. He has over 24 years of experience as a serial entrepreneur. DataWind’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) on the Toronto Stock Exchange in June 2014 represents the third IPO of his career. His two previous ventures successfully conducted IPOs on the NASDAQ stock market. At DataWind and previous ventures, patented technologies were created to develop scanning, printing and imaging products that set world records in both price and performance. The innovative products and technologies created through these ventures have received numerous awards and accolades, including recognition by the Guinness Book of Records. Suneet hasbeen recognized by Forbes magazine in its 2012 Impact 15 list as a “classroom revolutionary” using innovative technologies to reinvent education globally. In 2014, the Intelligent Community Forum named Suneet as its “Visionary of the Year”. In 2015, York University’s Lassonde School of Engineering recognized Suneet as the “Renaissance Engineer of the Year”. He has also been recognized as the entrepreneur of the year for 2012 at the World Sikh Awards. Suneet regularly speaks about social innovation and entrepreneurship at various national and international forums.In 2014, he delivered the prestigious Mercier Lecture. He has been a keynote speaker at TiEcon Southwest 2012, TiEcon Canada 2013, at the Indo-US Chamber’s annual conference and at the Darpan awards. In addition to speaking at numerous universities, Suneet has also spoken at the Internet Freedom Conference in Stockholm, the Beyond Access conference in Washington D.C., World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha, Andicom in Colombia and the Digital World conference in Dhaka.Suneet also participated as a celebrity judge in the 2014 season of the reality TV show ‘Stars of Science’. Suneet is Member of the Board of EcoSikh a faith based NGO focused on environmental sustainability;a CEO member of i-Canada Governor’s Council;aNational Board Member of the Indo-Canadian Business Chamber; a member of the National Broadband Committeeat the Confederation of Indian Industries and a member of the Chair’s Advisory Board service at University of Toronto’s department of Civil Engineering. Suneet stands out among his peers in his commitment to integrating technological with social innovation. Nowhere is this more evident than in Suneet’s tireless work with telecommunications firms and state governments in India to achieve a federal initiative to distribute millions of data-enabled tablets in India by 2017, the majority of which will reach marginalized populations living on less than $8 a day. As a frequent speaker at major academic, technology, humanitarian and government conferences and events, he advances public discourse on the rights of communities all over the world to information, internet connectivity and technology in the classroom. Suneet graduated in 1990 with a Bachelors of Applied Science in Engineering from the University of Toronto.
