FreeCharge’s Chat-n-Pay service registers 1 million users

FreeCharge on Tuesday revealed that it has registered one million active users for its Chat-n-Pay service. The two-month-old service is a way of enabling social payments between person-to-person and person-to-merchants payments.

Govind Rajan, the chief executive officer (CEO) of FreeCharge, said, “We intend to enable merchants easily register on our platform and accept digital payments. For consumers, the intention was to ride on the existing habit of chatting and further empower them to use this mean to pay.”

The Chat-n-Pay service makes it easier for merchants and consumers to transact digitally in a move towards a less cash economy. It includes features like send money, request money and split bill. From among the one million users, around 48% have used the service to send money, 46% to request money and 6% have used it to split the bill.

“We are confident that Chat-n-Pay will further accelerate the adoption of digital payments among Indian consumers and merchants,” added Rajan.

The Chat-n-Pay service also has over 50,000 merchants registered on the platform, who accepts digital payments and the services include taxi drivers, salons, general stores, across Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
