5 Hot Picks On SoundCloud

With technology and the internet having expanded to infinite realms, it’s hard for anything to have an effective reach. There’s a lot of good music out there that really hasn’t gotten the attention it deserves merely because of popularity, or the myriad other similar pieces of sound by other artists. In the past few years, amateur to semi-pro level music has been thriving on SoundCloud, among many others, due to the open sourced nature of the music sharing.  Anyone can record in their bedroom and upload a track of their own, and if you liked it, you could instantly hear more of that person’s material.  SO, we’ve compiled a bunch of tracks that we feel have a good groove, and have made it pretty big on SoundCloud. Check them out and follow their stuff if you want more!

Mayur Nanda, aka, Six Flying Whales, has had only two shows as an electronic artist. Digressing from the louder and more organic noises as a drummer for the band Orchid, the solo moniker focuses on more surreal and synthesised material, complete with random odd samples. Having recently performed at a bookstore and concluded an opening set for the new electronica duo Klypp, Six Flying Whales is slowly bringing his own sound to the scene. Definitely a musician to watch out for.

Ashok Krish, from Chennai, has been making the most ludicrous mixes of late. With a funnily named “Darth Vaadhiar” theme, “Riders on the Auto” and even a latest The White Stripes cover, the pop culture references embezzled throughout the music lends its own charm and has made quite the impression on the local scene.

A solo acoustic project by Akash Murthy, based out of Bangalore, Southern Skies Motel features luscious and deep acoustic melodies and some emotive, progressive, post-rock themed programming. Giving off quite an interesting and intense vibe, the dynamics are quite enjoyable without any overly loud, distorted sounds.

With some raw rock n roll and feel good blues, this relatively new act made its debut at Stonehenge and recently participated in the Hard Rock Rising competition. With only two songs out, there is still scope for a lot more pumping rock sounds from the trio, who, along with bands like White Mug, are working hard to promote the dying rock n roll vibe.

These guys have been working the scene for some time now with their unorthodox approaches to post-rock dynamics. With some very intense statements inherent in their sound, Space Behind the Yellow Room have an array of early material on their page that is definitely worth checking out. Armed with a new bassist, they will be playing at The Road To Converse Rubber Tracks In India, alongside The F16’s, Spud in the Box, Zero, Pangaea and the reunited Superfuzz.
