Ziro Festival Announces Dates

Set in the pristine Ziro valley of Arunachal Pradesh is the state’s largest music do, Ziro Festival of Music, a brainchild of Delhi-based rock band Menwhopause, which returns for its third edition with an extra day of merriment; instead of three days of music, festival frequenters will get four days of unadulterated rejoicing. The dates, marked from September 25 to 28, have been finalized for this year.

Interestingly, this festival has stood the test of trying weather and logistical conditions since its first edition (read here) for this third version to present itself to crowds. Around three months ago, while the planning was still underway, we spoke to Anup Kutty, guitarist and founding member of Menwhopause about this year’s edition. He said, “This year we want to encourage more people to camp in the festival area. We want to build a bigger and better camp city for our audience. Most Indians are still not completely comfortable with the idea of camping at a festival. We want them to experience that side of the fun”.

Among indie favourites, the festival has played host to Mumbai-based alt rock band Sky Rabbit, electro rock outfit Shaa’ir and Func, Shillong’s master folk rocker Lou Majaw, and American alt-rock band Sonic Youth’s Lee Ranaldo and Steve Shelley in the past. Like the charm of most festivals of the North East (read about other festivals here), this one too, pitches itself on the prospect of great music, rice beer and making merry.
