Drake’s New Music Venue History Ottawa Opens
Drake is expanding his influence beyond music and into the live entertainment business with the opening of History Ottawa, a new 2,000-capacity concert venue in the heart of Canada’s capital.
Located in the former Chapters building at the corner of Rideau Street and Sussex Drive, the venue officially opens its doors on Thursday, bringing a major new stop to Canada’s live music circuit. American rock band The Wallflowers will headline the opening night.
History Ottawa is a collaboration between Live Nation Canada and the National Capital Commission, with Drake and his team playing a significant role in its development and design.
Drake Says History Is About Creating a Better Artist Experience
Drake marked the opening by sharing a personal message about the venue and the philosophy behind it.
“Today we open the second History,” the rapper wrote, referring to the Ottawa location following the original History venue in Toronto.
Drake said the venues are designed for “outstanding artists” and fans seeking a communal experience, while thanking Live Nation for continuing to trust him with the project.
He also said he hopes the venues become places “where our stories are born, elevated, shared, and hopefully revisited.”
But perhaps his most revealing comments focused on emerging artists.
Drake said he thinks about performers who have stepped onto stages and wondered, “Is this what making it feels like?” His stated goal is to respect the heritage of established venues while creating a better experience for artists coming through the industry.
That vision could make History Ottawa more than another concert hall.
Inside History Ottawa
The new venue occupies a prominent location near the Rideau LRT station and Rideau Center mall, giving it a potentially important role in revitalizing Ottawa’s ByWard Market.
The main floor is designed primarily as a general-admission standing area, but the space can also be converted for concerts, galas and other events.
Upstairs, History Ottawa features a premium area with 112 seats that can be purchased individually or as part of private lodges. Additional standing space is available behind the reserved seating area.
Live Nation Canada regional vice-president Ali Shafaee said Drake’s team was heavily involved in the venue’s creative direction, including selecting furniture for the premium lounge.
“Even the premium lounge upstairs, his whole team was involved in hand-picking the furniture,” Shafaee said.

Will Drake Perform at History Ottawa?
That remains one of the biggest questions surrounding the venue.
Despite his involvement, no date has been confirmed for Drake to perform at History Ottawa.
Shafaee acknowledged the obvious question during a preview tour but said the timing of Drake’s own appearance remains undecided.
For now, the rapper appears focused on establishing the venue itself and its identity.
60 Shows Planned for 2026
History Ottawa is already preparing for a packed schedule.
Around 60 shows are planned for the remainder of 2026, with roughly 35 performances already announced. The venue is expected to host approximately 150 shows in 2027.
For Live Nation, adding Ottawa to its network with History Ottawa strengthens the city’s position as a touring destination alongside Toronto and Montreal.
The opening also comes as investment increases across the ByWard Market, with new hotels, restaurants and entertainment spaces being developed.
A New Chapter for Ottawa Live Music
History Ottawa arrives at a potentially transformative moment for the ByWard Market.
With a capacity of around 2,000 people, the venue sits in a sweet spot between intimate clubs and larger arenas, giving touring artists another option while bringing fans closer to performers.
Drake’s involvement adds an extra layer of star power.
Whether the rapper eventually takes the History Ottawa stage himself or not, his message is clear: the venue is intended to become a place where the next generation of artists can create their own history.
