In a series of investments, UrbanClap is latest for corporate mogul Ratan Tata

Tata sons’ chairman emeritus Ratan N Tata has been actively investing in e-commerce start-ups. His latest investment is of an undisclosed amount towards UrbanClap, an online service providing platform. UrbanClap helps people find service professionals. From plumbers to hair stylists, yoga teacher, interior designer, the platform has it all.

The company has its presence in six cities — NCR, Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad. The platform provides services to thousands of customers each day through a network of 25000+ service professionals.

Ratan Tata may have officially announced his retirement in 2012, but that does not mean his life’s work is over. He has been actively investing in many start-ups that have potential. Tata has also been undertaking a lot of social causes. He recently announced a tie-up with Google and Intel to help more and more women be able to access the internet.

Ratan Tata invested an undisclosed amount to the online shopping portal that was recently in the middle of a controversy for having Bollywood actor Aamir Khan as its brand ambassador after Khan had spoken out against the intolerance in the country.

Urban Ladder, November 15, 2014

It is an e-commerce portal that sells furniture and home décor. It was started by IIM Bangalore graduates, Ashish Goel and Rajiv Srivatsa in July 2012

Cardekho.com, February 8th, 2014

The website lets users buy, sell and compare prices of various cars in the market. The company was started by two IIT-Delhi graduates, Anuraj and Amit Jain.
