2013 brought in a delightful new array of restaurants and lounges. With Bangalore’s increasing stints thriving off such social culture, the number of bars, pubs, gastro-pubs etc have gone up rapidly to accommodate the drastic demands of the working class who like to party. Here are some venues around the city that have been doing pretty well of late, making a name for themselves and showing prospects of booming in the next year.
Plan B Loaded
A branch of the famous Plan B in Ashok Nagar, this larger, brighter tributary also sells hard liquor which the Ashok Nagaar branch doesn’t do. With a range of European and American cuisines, it is slowly becoming a regular and, being less than a year old, are probably going to thrive in 2014. A variety of alcoholic beverages and a lively crowd complement the restaurant and although there is no live music, a good mix of rock and contemporary music is assured.
13, Rhenius Street, Opposite Hockey Stadium, Shanti Nagar, Bangalore
Humming Tree
Another venue that’s been open less than a year. However, this one has been flying right from the start. With some great service, food and drink, the live stage has featured host of indie acts over the last months. Even some international acts have played there and 2014 will most definitely continue to see the Humming Tree booming as a venue.
3rd Floor, 12th Main, Indiranagar, Bangalore
Vapour
This extremely new brew pub is in the hub of Indiranagar and, despite being one of over a crowd of 1150 restaurants in the area, have already gained some great reviews. Inaugurating with a gig from Bangalore’s own Thermal and a Quarter, they are yet to serve brews, but have an assortment of drinks and cocktails and some great lounge food. The DJ on the third floor belts out some well known tunes and the open terrace is a great option too.
773, 100 Feet Road, 2nd Stage, HAL, Indiranagar, Bangalore
Monkey Bar
This extremely niche, and quite eccentric gastropub serves everything from sushi to steak, Jagermeister to Old Monk rum. With a varied crowd, the basement level is often packed due to the intense pool and foosball competitions that frequently occur. One can have some peaceful weekend breakfasts of Bloody Monkey (a Bloody Mary made with 60ml vodka, rum or gin) topped with skewers of bacon-wrapped sausages, mushroom, chicken and potato skins and enjoy some crazy DJ nights.
14/1, Krishna Manare, Ashoknagar, Off Richmond Road, Bangalore
BAK BAK Bar
Originally Manchester United Pub, this is a great live venue and is usually filled up with college students, being so close to Christ College. With some great student deals and an awesome stage, the ground floor is a lively and bustling area. Serving an eclectic mix of Western, Chinese and Indian food, their very helpful staff cater to your every whim and party nights with loud music are now very popular. The second floor, a more private and secluded section of the restaurant, is a great place for business meetings or family lunches.
