Bangalore Open Air Crowdfunds for Its Third Edition

Bangalore Open Air, one of ‘Asia’s biggest metal festival’, is crowdfunding for its third edition on Wishberry. A festival dedicated purely to metal, Bangalore Open Air has seen metal bigwigs like American band Iced Earth, progressive metal band Animals as Leaders (read about their new album here) and Norway-based band Ihsahn among others, driving crowds into moshes in its last edition in 2013. So far, the organizers have collected around Rs. 8,046 from five people with Rs. 44, 00,000 as the target amount and 100 days left. One is expected to buy one’s tickets in advance before the line-up is announced based on reputation created from the successful last two editions.

Coming out in support of crowd funding, Demonic Resurrection/Reptilian Death’s frontman Sahil Makhija expressed his thoughts on the festival’s Facebook page saying, “Too many people have a negative view about crowd funding and think of it as ‘asking’ or ‘charity’ when in fact it really isn’t. Bangalore Open Air has started crowd funding for this year’s edition. Last year they got bands like Iced Earth, Animals As Leaders, Ihsahn, and many others. All they want from you metal heads is to buy a ticket in advance. It’s just that simple. They’ve delivered a great line-up both years so far so you can expect this year to be nothing short of amazing.”

Roydon Bangera, manager of Mumbai-based thrash metal band Devoid and alt-rock band The Hoodwink Circle wrote, “Don’t crib that (there) are no shows or metal festivals in India. Bangalore Open Air gives you a chance to make it ‘Your festival’! Support metal in India.” Crowd funding has helped a lot of musicians. Parvaaz, for one, is a recent success that collected money through Wishberry’s program for their upcoming album (read here).

The festival is scheduled for September 6, 2014 in Bangalore. To contribute and keep the festival alive, click here.
