At least 30 dead, 50 injured as two trains collide in Pakistan’s Sindh province

At least 30 people were killed while 50 others were injured on Monday after two passenger express trains collided in Pakistan’s Sindh province. According to Pakistan’s railway officials, the collision occurred between the Millat Express, which was en-route from Karachi to Sargodha and Sir Syed Express, coming from Rawalpindi. The mishap happened after the coaches of one train, the Millat Express, derailed and fell across the opposite track, where they were hit by another train.

The expected toll could further shoot up as there are passengers still mangled train compartments that rescuers have not been able to access despite the passage of hours since the accident, Pak Tribune reported quoting officials.

An emergency has been declared at hospitals in Ghotki, Dharki, Obaro and Mirpur Mathelo. Ghotki Deputy Commissioner Usman Abdullah said at least 30 people have been killed while 50 others injured in the incident,. Officials were also facing difficulty in rescuing the people trapped inside the overturned bogies.
