MTV to Launch New Indie Channel

In partnership with global soft drink brand Pepsi, Viacom 18’s MTV has decided to launch a new channel called ‘MTV Indies’. Through this channel, a dedicated focus will be on the importance of independent musicians and bands, given MTV’s already sizeable connection with music and the youth at large.

The music will try and encapsulate as many genres as possible ranging from international to local indie acts, be it of the folk or electronica variety. The initiative was conceived, noting a remarkable growth of music as a sub-culture amongst Indian youth.

Besides music, the channel will try to bring under its umbrella – visual art shows, indie films, and the back story to indie artistes. The exact date of its release remains under wraps, but the channel will be launched in approximately two months.
