Universal Music to Release Midhaven’s Album

Universal Music (India) have signed on progressive metallers Midhaven, based out of Mumbai, to release their debut full-length album Spellbound. The release is slated for the end of March 2014. Karan Kaul, guitarist and vocalist of the band commented, “We’re honoured that a major record label is appreciating the metal scene that has gradually grown over the years in our country. Signing with a label like Universal Music is an amazing feat for us as a couple of years ago we were just a bunch of college kids with a dream.”

Midhaven was formed in 2011 and very quickly built a commendable following in the underground scene. In 2013, the band released their debut EP titled Tales From The Tide to much acclaim from fans. The EP was more rock though, and the band has changed their sound to a much heavier one for the new album.

Universal Music have also been on a constant search for promising upcoming acts across the country, especially in the genre of metal as the label hasn’t signed on too many metal artists. Says Sridhar TVN, the A&R of Universal Music (India), “Midhaven is a brilliant young metal band we are thrilled to represent; their music is a powerful combination of skilful musicianship, mystic and emotive lyrics and unbridled enthusiasm. Their album is an intense start for a band that are committed to produce and perform the best that you can hear in this genre.” With a unique blend of thrash, sludge and traces of death metal, the band’s new sounds are noticeably different from their Tales from The Tide EP, and the new album Spellbound promises to thrust the national metal scene in a new direction. With the Universal Music signing, this opens up the scope for other indie bands to access a much larger database, with professional industry support.
