With the holy month of the football world cup approaching near and fast (from June 12 to July 13) British pop group Take That’s frontman Gary Barlow joins hands with bigwigs of international pop music and the football world to record the official FIFA World Cup anthem, which is slated to unveil on March 21.
The single will be led by Gary Barlow and former English footballer Gary Linekar in the presence of other footballing legends and pop stars including Mel C and Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls and Kimberley Walsh, former member of Girls Aloud. While work has kick started on the track, the name is yet to be declared.
While the preparations of the run-up are taking place in earnest on one hand, Brazilian protestors, on the other, took to the streets this week concerning an issue of public money spent on the world cup and the one-track image Brazil is often pigeonholed into – football, carnivals, beaches and women, which was triggered off from Adidas’s allegedly sexist T-shirts that were being used as advertisements. Football authorities asked the brand to pull the specific apparel off the market; so now, who’re you rooting for?
Meanwhile, listen to “Wavin’ Flag”, 2010’s World Cup single below, which was held in South Africa.
