Ed Sheeran Tour Erupts Into Crisis as All Supporting Acts Quit After Macklemore Removal

Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour has been rocked by a stunning mass exodus after all four remaining supporting acts withdrew in solidarity with Macklemore, following the rapper’s removal over his pro-Palestinian comments.

Finneas, Aaron Rowe, Lukas Graham and Irish band Beoga have all announced they will no longer participate in upcoming dates, turning a dispute over Macklemore’s onstage comments into a major crisis for Ed Sheeran’s tour.

The departures came within hours of Sheeran addressing the controversy publicly and saying Macklemore’s removal was not his decision.

Finneas Pulls Out and Says He Stands With Palestine

Finneas, who was scheduled to support Sheeran across six South American dates later this year, announced his withdrawal Tuesday.

The singer said artists should not be silenced when speaking about oppressed people and explicitly expressed support for Palestine.

His decision followed the departure of Aaron Rowe, who had been scheduled for remaining North American dates.

Rowe said he did not make the decision lightly, emphasizing his friendship with Sheeran while arguing that he could not continue with the tour under the circumstances.

The withdrawals rapidly transformed the Macklemore controversy from a dispute involving one opening act into a broader confrontation involving multiple musicians connected to Sheeran’s tour.

Beoga and Lukas Graham Join the Exit

Beoga, the Irish traditional band that performs with Sheeran, also announced its departure from the remaining U.S. dates.

The group said it remained grateful for its long relationship with Sheeran but wanted to express solidarity with Macklemore and support dialogue concerning Palestinians.

Danish pop group Lukas Graham followed with its own withdrawal.

Frontman Lukas Forchhammer said artists should be able to discuss war, civilian deaths and children affected by conflict, while also stressing that his affection and respect for Sheeran had not changed.

After those announcements, every scheduled supporting act for the affected upcoming dates withdrew.

Why Was Macklemore Removed?

The controversy began after Macklemore made pro-Palestinian remarks during performances at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium earlier this month.

The rapper spoke about Gaza and the occupied West Bank and used the phrase “Free Palestine.” His comments triggered criticism and calls for him to be removed from the tour.

Sheeran subsequently said venue owners had indicated they would not host shows if Macklemore remained part of the lineup.

He said the promoter and venues made the final decision, not him.

“I would never let down the fans who had made plans,” Sheeran said in his statement, adding that he would not abandon the touring crew and musicians who depended on the shows for work.

Robert Kraft Defends Venue Decision

Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, confirmed that his venue opposed Macklemore appearing there.

Kraft said the decision was based on Macklemore’s recent actions as well as what he described as a broader history of rhetoric and imagery that he considered offensive to the Jewish community.

The reference includes a 2013 incident in which Macklemore apologized after appearing onstage wearing imagery that critics characterized as antisemitic.

Robert Kraft has also said he would welcome a conversation with Macklemore, framing the desired outcome as peace and an end to suffering and hatred.

Sheeran Caught Between Tour, Venues and Artists

Ed Sheeran has tried to distance himself from the decision, saying his concerts should remain spaces for audiences rather than political forums.

The mass departures, however, have placed the controversy directly inside his tour.

The episode now raises broader questions about the boundaries of political expression at commercial concerts, the influence of venue owners and promoters, and how artists respond when their colleagues face professional consequences for public statements.

For Sheeran, the immediate challenge is continuing the Loop Tour after losing every scheduled supporting act associated with the controversy.

For the departing musicians, their decisions have turned Macklemore’s removal into something much larger: a highly visible dispute over artistic expression, political speech and the power of the concert business.
