April 1, in 2013 is recorded as a historic day when India’s first woman took reins of the biggest stock exchange, the National Stock Exchange (NSE). Chitra Ramakrishna was appointed as the Managing Director and CEO of the National Stock Exchange, the first such development in the NSE, and also significant as she is the second woman to hold a top bourse in India.
A CA by profession, Ramakrishan has been associated with the NSE since its inception in 1991. It was a proud moment for her then also, as she was chosen as a part of select five-member team by Government of India. Before NSE, she has worked with IDBI in 1985, and then SEBI before returning to IDBI two years later.
She is considered among the top 25 influential woman in India (ranked by the India Today Group) and won accolades from the Forbes’-Women Leader of the year (2013).
