Former Cabinet Secretary
Shri B.K. Chaturvedi is the former cabinet secretary, appointed by the Union Government as Member, Planning Commission in June, 2007. He was also designated as Member, Thirteenth Finance Commission (November, 2007). He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2010 after starting his career in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in the 1996 batch.
His role involved advising appointments committee of the cabinet and Prime Minister on major policy issues, and steering the National Crisis Management Committee. He has also been Secretary to the Government of India in several Ministries, including Finance, Human Resource Development (which includes Higher Education, Technical Education and Elementary Education) and Petroleum & Natural Gas for more than six years.
His multifaceted expertise can be understood by the fact that Chaturvedi has worked across corporate, private, and government sector. He is a name associated with boards of several Public Sector Undertakings, including MMTC Limited, Life Insurance Corporation of India, General Insurance Corporation of India and State Electricity Board of Uttar Pradesh.
