John Oliver traveled to India last year which left viewers guessing why, evidently, the trip was when John Oliver interviewed The Dalai Lama in Dharamshala. The episode aired on Sunday’s Last Week Tonight where Oliver had some questions about how the Dalai Lama thing works so he visited him and asked directly.
They covered topics like China’s grip on Tibet, the Dalai Lama’s reincarnation and the recognition of the Panchen Lama. Towards the end of the interview, the Dalai Lama decided that since people were anyway referring to him as a ‘demon’ he’d prefer to have company and so he asked Oliver, “I want another demon,” he says, adding, “So you become demon.” To which Oliver replies, “You can’t reincarnate the demon into me!” Watch the full Last Week Tonight clip above.
