Rosario Dawson Reveals She Was Cut From ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’
Rosario Dawson has revealed that she filmed a scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day before her Claire Temple cameo was removed from the final cut, and she still hopes the MCU will bring her character back.
The Marvel Cinematic Universe just lost a familiar face from Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Rosario Dawson has confirmed that she filmed a scene as Claire Temple, better known to Marvel fans as Night Nurse, but the sequence ultimately did not make it into the theatrical release.
Dawson revealed the surprise during an appearance at GalaxyCon Raleigh 2026, where she was asked which superhero she would most like to work with. Her answer quickly turned into an unexpected Spider-Man revelation.
“I could have said Spider-Man. I even shot a scene in the new ‘Spider-Man’ movie, but I got cut out,” Dawson told the audience.
The revelation prompted disappointment among fans, but Dawson took it in stride. She explained that she had already prepared behind-the-scenes material for social media before learning that her appearance had been removed.
Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple Scene Was Real
Rosario Dawson’s comments confirm that Claire Temple was genuinely part of the production, rather than simply being the subject of fan speculation. According to comments previously made by Spider-Man: Brand New Day writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Claire was filmed helping Peter Parker after his brutal confrontation with Scorpion.
The scene reportedly took place in a medical setting, where she would have treated an injured Peter before he continued the story.
However, the writers have indicated that the sequence was removed primarily for pacing reasons.
Chris McKenna described the movie as having an abundance of characters and scenes, while Erik Sommers said the Claire Temple sequence was good but ultimately appeared to create a redundant story beat immediately before Peter’s next major encounter.
That means Rosario Dawson’s deleted appearance apparently wasn’t the result of a creative rejection of Claire Temple. Instead, the scene became one of several pieces sacrificed to keep the movie moving.
Dawson Still Wants to Play Claire Temple
Despite the disappointment, Dawson isn’t closing the door on the MCU.
The actress said she remains excited that Claire exists somewhere within the same Marvel universe and hopes that gives the character another opportunity to appear.
For Dawson, that possibility is particularly meaningful because Claire has been one of her most recognizable roles in Marvel. The character appeared across Marvel’s interconnected television projects, including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.
Dawson also pointed to another advantage of playing characters such as Claire and Star Wars hero Ahsoka Tano: both operate in expansive fictional universes where unexpected crossovers remain possible.
That makes Claire’s absence from Brand New Day potentially less final than it initially sounds.
Why Was the Scene Cut?
The explanation from McKenna and Sommers is relatively straightforward: Spider-Man: Brand New Day already had a crowded story.
The Claire sequence reportedly would have occurred before Peter’s meeting with Bruce Banner. The writers felt the two scenes created a “double beat,” meaning Peter would move through consecutive sequences that served similar narrative purposes.
Rather than suggesting Dawson’s performance was a problem, the writers praised the scene and indicated that time and pacing were the deciding factors.
For Marvel fans, that distinction could be important. Deleted scenes involving established characters can sometimes remain valuable pieces of MCU continuity, particularly when the actor is interested in returning.

Could Claire Temple Return?
For now, there is no official confirmation that Rosario Dawson will reprise Claire Temple in another Marvel project. But her comments have already reignited speculation.
The MCU continues to expand across multiple films and television series, while Marvel’s multiverse storytelling creates opportunities for characters to reappear in unexpected places. Dawson’s willingness to return could make Claire’s comeback particularly appealing to longtime fans.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has plenty of other MCU connections, including Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova and a deliberately ambiguous post-credits tease.
For Rosario Dawson, however, the biggest Marvel twist may simply be that her Spider-Man scene exists somewhere in the vault.
And if Marvel decides Claire Temple still has unfinished business, fans may not have seen the last of her.
