Mahindra Independence Rock Line Up Will Have The OG Festival Goers and Newbies Smile

Mahindra Independence Rock, one of India’s few remaining rock music festivals, is set to celebrate its 30th edition this November with an interesting lineup. The Mahindra I-Rock festival, scheduled for November 16-17, 2024, promises a mix of Indian Indie rock legends and emerging talent, capturing the spirit of three decades of rock rebellion and innovation. Themed ‘Dirty 30,’ this year’s festival will pay homage to rock’s glory days while giving fresh, cutting-edge voices a platform.

The Comebacks

Fans are buzzing about the highly anticipated reunions of iconic bands Motherjane and 13AD. Kerala-based progressive rock band Motherjane is reuniting after 12 years to retake the stage. Known for their fusion of Carnatic music and progressive rock, Motherjane captivated audiences with their 2008 album Maktub, and their return to Independence Rock is sure to thrill longtime fans.

Even the return of 13AD, who are reuniting after a 28-year hiatus. Known for their 90s classics Ground Zero and Tough on the Streets, their comeback at the Mahindra Independence Rock Festival marks a nostalgic revival for rock enthusiasts nationwide.

Once upon a time – Metal Project

For fans of heavier sounds, Bloodywood, one of the biggest names in Indian metal, will deliver their hard-hitting blend of folk and metal. With accolades from Rolling Stone and recognition from rock legends like Tom Morello, Bloodywood’s return to Independence Rock will unleash a storm of riffs and growls. Also joining the fray is the Bombay Metal Project, a collective of metal veterans from renowned bands like Bhayanak Maut and Zygnema, promising an adrenaline-charged performance at the Mahindra Independence Rock Festival.

Nostalgia and New Voices

In addition to reunions and metal fury, this edition will feature classic acts like Indus Creed, the pioneers of Indian rock since the 1980s, and Girish and The Chronicles, known for channelling the energy of glam metal giants like Mötley Crüe and Bon Jovi.

The Mahindra Independence Rock festival’s tradition of hosting a national band hunt adds to the excitement. Aspiring rockers from India will compete for the coveted opening slot, continuing I-Rock’s legacy of discovering and launching some of the country’s most influential acts.

With pyrotechnics, nostalgia, and raw new energy, Mahindra I-Rock’s ‘Dirty 30’ promises to be the year’s event for rockers and metalheads alike.
