5 reasons why listening to podcasts is a good thing

Unlike videos, you don’t have to pay absolute focused attention to it. You can keep doing whatever it is you were doing while the podcast continues to play – much like you do with music.

Before we tell you why podcasts are a great thing to include your daily life, you need to understand what podcasts really are. Podcasts are a series of episodes in digital audio files which can be listened to at any time or downloaded and stored. Putting it in simple terms, it’s like on demand radio. It’s an internet-based non-live radio which you could listen to on-the-go for free.

How should you listen to podcasts? Unlike videos, you don’t have to pay absolute focused attention to it. You can keep doing whatever it is you were doing while the podcast continues to play – much like you do with music. Thus, it can be done alongside you doing your house chores, taking a walk or one of the most common ways people consume this is during their commute. Much like audio-books, it makes for a good substitute for people who are not in to reading. We love podcasts and would like to share with you why:

Podcasts for knowledge

Depending on what you may choose to listen to, there is much to be learned through podcasts. One can acquire a great deal of knowledge on numerous subjects. From science to diets, from religion to entrepreneurship, there are several topics to avail from and you can choose any. One famous podcast that, by itself, spans over several genres and topics of discussion is The Tim Ferriss Show. Another great podcast to check out would be The Knowledge Project by Shane Parrish.

Podcasts for humour

Unlike sitcoms, where you are required to sit in front of and pay attention to a TV screen, podcasts make for easy-listening. It’s great to sit back and listen to some material that paves hilarious discussions like those on The Joe Rogan Experience or rants from standup comedian Bill Burr’s Monday Morning Podcast.

Podcasts are better than music

Since podcasts, like music, can accompany you in most activities, it becomes easy to use and therefore easy to get hooked on to. While some may disagree, many people have now reduced the amount of music they listen to and substitute it with podcasts. Listening to people talk, especially with regard to something that is of interest and insightful, help pass time much better than music does. On a longer time-period, listening to something interesting from which you can also learn a lot is better than listening to music where you often find yourself stuck in your thoughts as the track goes on.

Podcasts are good company

While it may be sad to point out but podcasts are a great tool to relieve yourself of being alone – which is something we face very often due to our modern-day lifestyles. Podcasts are a good way to keep you company when you feel a void, you could even find one related to exactly what you are thinking of in that moment. Listening to people talk, especially if the topic is of interest to you, could be less alienating than listening to music alone – though not for everyone.

Podcasts over books

Due to the ease of access and use, which we addressed earlier, podcasts are even suited for people who would like to start reading books but claim to have “no time”. Be it fiction or non-fiction, listeners could find plenty of options for both and unlike many audio-books, most of these are free. There are a few podcasts that require paid subscriptions but these are few and far in between. You could tune in and listen to any podcast, anywhere for free with no hassles. Many podcasts publish new stories or parts of their story once a week, each week – forming a good choice of binge-listening.
