Remo Fernandes Releases Ditty for Aam Aadmi Party

In 2011, when the Anna Hazare movement was kicking up a storm, Goan pop musician Remo Fernandes composed a song called “India Against Corruption” to display his political belief that purged India off all its corruption. Nearly three years hence, on April 7, the much-feted Remo, who shot to fame with “Humma Humma” from the Bollywood film Bombay, released a one minute-long catchy jingle in support of the Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party titled “Zhadoo Mariya” or “It’s Mango Time in Goa”. Both, the single and the video, are composed, sung, arranged, and edited by Remo himself with assistance from Sai Palondikar for lyrics.

Remo, a staunch AAP follower, is no newbie when it comes to using his music to sway audiences in a direction carved by his political opinions. In fact, he released an entire album called Politicians Don’t Know How To Rock N Roll in 1992 to throw light upon the growing communal tension that was starting to take a grip on the country. His political conscience was always an impressive disposition but with the onslaught of the AAP, he has distanced himself from other political parties. However most recently he even quit the AAP as he felt politics was interfering with his music. For now, he aims to offer proactive support from the fence. Albeit Remo’s idea of India’s ‘root of all evil is corruption’ may be a bit naïve (gauging from the single), his efforts in urging people to vote are definitely laudable.
