Legends of Rock is the perfect combination of good food, great music and excellent ambience
Rocking with the Legends
Legends Of Rock is a very well established joint in Bangalore. Nine years in the scene, it has set itself up as one of the premier pubs of the rock calibre. Several other venues like Jimi’s Beer Cafe have popped up owing to the inspiration of LOR and follow almost exactly the same principles.
The minute you step in, darkness engulfs you. Dimly glowing lights mark up the sofas, tables and bar and there is always a music video playing. It is this concept that initially became a hit. With VH1 reducing the hours dedicated to rock, the restaurant decided some years ago to play exclusively rock videos. From GnR to Led Zeppelin to Godsmack, they have played it all. This makes the ambience awesomely like a rock pub and the vibes are great. Beer is available by the mug, pint, pitcher or tower, all from the tap. Food is mainly an Indo-Chinese mix, but they have some mouth-watering starters too which are more recommended. A good beer drinking session is usually accompanied only by starters and those are yum! Beer battered prawns, fish fingers and the veg and non-veg platters are to die for. Legends of Rock has a tiny stage. It’s actually minuscule, but it has been the platform that has propelled scores of local bands into recognition. Almost every single band that has made it big in the city over the last five years has played in LOR at least once. A very attractive offer they have on their anniversary are the reduced prices. Recently, for their 9th anniversary, they slashed rates and were serving beer by the pitcher for just Rs.90! It is offers like these also that keep seeing an influx of regular crowd.
Founded by entrepreneur Ashish Kothare, this is one tightly-knit institution that has been running efficiently and effectively for almost a decade. If you were in college in the city, LOR would bring back several reminiscent memories of group drinking sessions, quiet fancy lunches or loud and boisterous live events, which usually happen at least weekly. Every Wednesday, there’s a karaoke night, where the city’s drunkest come to hone their vocal skills. A very entertaining and happy event that sees all three floors of the establishment filled up. On weekends, they even play some metal, but all music always has a video accompaniment and it’s this that makes the place so popular. Sometimes they even play entire concerts from start to finish, or cricket matches if they are in season.
Top Picks: Beer battered prawns, beer tower and some live music is the best place to be.
All in all, hit up this place if you happen to be around. If not, hit it up anyway!
