LeBron James has arrived in Philadelphia, and his first message as a 76er was impossible to miss. The NBA superstar made his intentions clear as he began a new chapter with a dramatically rebuilt Sixers roster.
LeBron James officially stepped into his new Philadelphia 76ers era Monday, and he wasted little time setting the tone.
During his first media appearance wearing a Sixers uniform, the 41-year-old superstar delivered perhaps the clearest indication yet of what he expects from his latest NBA chapter.
“I didn’t leave my family to lose in the second round,” James said.
The comment immediately drew attention to James’ move from the Los Angeles Lakers to Philadelphia. After eight seasons in Los Angeles, James chose the Philadelphia 76ers as he enters his 24th NBA season, joining a roster that also features Joel Embiid, Tyrese Maxey, and newly acquired star Jaylen Brown.

James’ decision to join Philadelphia marks a major shift for a franchise that hasn’t won an NBA championship since 1983.
The Sixers went 45-37 last season before the eventual champion New York Knicks swept them in the second round. Philadelphia responded this offseason by reshaping its roster, with James as the biggest addition.

His relationship with Tyrese Maxey played an important role in the move. The two developed a close bond through workouts, while James has also expressed a desire to help Embiid push through the postseason obstacles that have defined much of the star center’s career.
“You Guys Know Who I Am, Right?”
James’ first moments as a Sixer quickly became a social-media spectacle.
He sat down at the media table, moved his microphone and eventually placed his name card on the floor before joking with reporters: “You guys know who I am, right?”
The answer was obvious.
James enters Philadelphia with a résumé that includes four NBA championships, four MVP awards, four Finals MVP awards, and 22 All-Star selections. He is also the NBA’s career scoring leader.
Yet James repeatedly emphasized that his role will not simply be about scoring.
“The luxury of my game is, I can do everything,” he said.
That versatility could become particularly important alongside Embiid, Brown and Maxey, as Philadelphia attempts to establish how its new collection of stars will operate together.
LeBron’s Message to the Sixers
James also spoke about the importance of embracing difficult work rather than expecting immediate success.
He wants his championship experience to influence teammates who have yet to reach the highest level of postseason success.
“I hope that I can bring that experience, bring that knowledge, bring the blueprint,” James said.
For Embiid, James sees health as a crucial component of Philadelphia’s ambitions. He praised the work Embiid has put into preparing his body and said the team needs the best version of its star center.
James also declined to speculate about how much longer he will play, saying he wants to focus on the present rather than establish a timetable for the end of his career.
