Stupid Ditties : Lucky Seven

Stupid Ditties: Lucky Seven

The Ennui of Indie Platforms

Stupid Ditties, now in its seventh edition, is a monolithic milestone in the promotion of local music. Compilations of upcoming and indie bands nationwide, each edition contains a hearty number of songs. Even the selection of songs from each band has some thought behind it, so it would be the more underground tracks of your favourite local band that would probably feature in this compilation. What’s more, all of the editions are available for free download on the ennui.BOMB website, which is a convenient fountain of knowledge on the local indie music scene. Most upcoming bands get featured here, plus some more established acts who still would have started out quite indie.

Brainchild of Rishu Singh, a previous Sony Music employee, who after quitting his fulltime job got more involved in the ennui.BOMB projects, which have been going on since 2004. Now there are mid-week gigs regularly happening at Kino108 that draw in strong crowds. The popular band Blek, who he books, has also gone far, playing the Great Escape festival in England. Other bands that have emerged from the scene are The Riot Peddlers, who he now manages, The Vinyl Records, Sky Rabbit and several more.

The first compilation, We Are The Scene, back in 2005, featured artists such as Devoid, Reptilian Death, The Salvation Crusade and Tripwire. Since, there have consistently been 9 such compilations over the last 9 years. An impressive feat that has really spread awareness of the varied local indie artists there are in the country.

The very latest compilation, Stupid Ditties: Lucky Seven is a colossal 29 track album featuring a whole assortment of upcoming and established indie musicians. Nischay Parekh, Ganesh Talkies, Sky Rabbit, Jekyll and Hyde and The F16’s are just some of the bands that have a song on the compilation and just from the selection, one can say that it is an interesting mix of the freshest sounds the country has to offer.

Stupid Ditties: Lucky Seven is the ninth compilation by ennui.BOMB and was released on 28 September 2013. Also, take a look at their collaboration with Control Alt Delete, another indie platform from Mumbai.
