Driver on demand startup Driku offers respite on drunken nights

The thought that too much alcohol would make one nervy at the wheels often kicks in when it is too late. The only option one is left with is to leave their vehicle at the spot and get a cab back home. Those, on the other hand, don’t like leaving their vehicles unattended even take the risk of driving back home in that state.

Thanks to Driku, a startup in the city that offers the driver on demand in just one tap, now this issue will be easily sorted out. Currently, if one is found drinking and driving, the norm is to issue a challan and leave them to get home the same way, thereby not eliminating the risk.

The app, which aims to reduce drunken driving instances in the city, was launched on Friday in Gurgaon. The startup has joined hand with the police to help with the same. On Friday and Saturday night both took part in the ‘Friends do NOT let their Friends Drink and Drive’ campaign, where police conducted checks at Iffco Chowk and MG Road.

The app would also be reaching out to Gurgaon-based bar operators and restaurants to share their contact and make sure to connect with the service during such situations. Apart from that this service also remains open to people feeling unwell unwilling to leave their vehicles behind.

The drivers would be taking public transport back home after leaving people safely to their destination. To keep things transparent and safe, users would be getting the picture of the driver who will be doing the service. The app also gives special services to requests like only female drivers or drivers every day for an hour, etc. Apart from that, there are options to avail the service in either Delhi-NCR or out-of-station.

The base fee for the service is Rs. 160 plus 7 per kilometre. The aggregator charges Rs. 10 as fee and the rest goes to the driver.
