Google has launched the Pixel 5a, a new budget Pixel phone which is expected to be priced at Rs 33,490 in India. The company has also announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, two new high-end phones that will launch in the fall and will use a new Google Tensor chip.
The Pixel 5a is a moderate improvement over last year’s Pixel 4a 5G, offering a larger battery, a slightly bigger screen and water resistance. It supports 5G but not the fastest mmWave 5G networks and has the same midrange Qualcomm processor as last year.
Google plans to invest heavily in marketing its new flagship phones, and consumers who don’t want to spend more for them, may find the Pixel 5a a good compromise. According to CNBC, the latest product competes most directly with Apple’s iPhone SE, which costs the same with the same amount of storage, 128GB. It also competes with other low-cost Android phones such as the Samsung Galaxy A42 5G. Moreover, Google is offering dual cameras on the rear side equipped with robust features.
The Google Pixel 5a showcases a 5.81 inch OLED screen with a pixel density of 444PPI and a screen resolution of 1080×2340 pixels. The bezel-less punch-hole display of the device is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The new phone looks like a more premium device compared to the Pixel 4a; it is vibrant and bright.

The sound quality of Pixel 5a is very good, thanks to its stereo speakers. The top speaker is nestled in the earpiece, which is barely noticeable slit above the display. Combined with the bottom-firing speaker, the Pixel 5a can get very loud and punchy. While it lacks the bass and warmness, which can be found in a pair of headphones (high-quality phones), the 5a has better sound than most other phones in this price sound.
It comes with a massive 4,680mAh battery, larger than what has been seen in any Pixel phone so far.
