Beer is a fast moving commodity in Bangalore. With a rapid rise in number of pubs, breweries have started sprouting up, everywhere. In 2011, the State Excise department drafted an amendment allowing pubs of certain sizes to brew only certain quantities of beer per year, along with a fee. The concept of the micro-brewery has hit the city in such a way that every young restaurant entrepreneur would now consider delving into it. With some of the breweries having existed for a few years now, others are sprouting up almost every month. With great diversity in tastes and each brewery having different flavours, we have picked a top 5 hotlist of the beer breweries in Bangalore.

The Biere Club

The Biere Club: Located on Lavelle Road and very close to the massive UB City, this early brewery houses six types of brew beer. With a warm and smoky atmosphere downstairs, the service is impeccable and so is the food. The six types of brew are the ale, lager, stout, wheat, seasonal and club special. Each is quite a delight in its own right with a smooth mix of flavours. A meal for 2 at the Biere Club would cost you Rs.1800, but the beer is so good you’d go back for more.

The Biere Club is on Lavelle Road and a meal for two averages at Rs.1800.

Arbor Brewing Company

Arbor Brewing Company: This massive terrace restro-bar is a branch of the Michigan brewery of the same name. With a vast variety of beer options, the pricing is also a little more affordable on the alcohol. With 14 different types of brew and multiple seating options, the restaurant also has some great food, a foosball table and massive projector! Definitely a place to make your regular hangout.

Arbor Brewing Company is opposite Garuda Mall and a pint will cost you an average of Rs.250.

Toit

Toit: Located in the heart of Indiranagar, this brewery has been around for a few years now. With a great ambiance, and huge premises, the brews are quite awesome. With six types of brew, the most popular has to be the basmati blonde, but one can go for more darker or bitter options too. They also introduce seasonal flavours like the pumpkin beer on Halloween and a spicy ginger-and-cinnamon infused brew for Christmas.

Toit is in Indiranagar, and a pint is an average of Rs.200.

Windmills Craftworks

Windmills Craftworks:  This smoky jazz bar has a smooth and peaceful vibe to it. Albeit, it’s in Whitefield, much outside the city, the experience is wonderful. With six brew beers on tap, the most popular has to be the Hefeweisen, a very fruity wheat brew. Weekend jazz performances and some beef and bacon burgers seal the deal. The Indian pale ale and the brown ale, which has a mixture of jaggery and coconut, are also some great options.

Windmills Craftworks is in Whitefield and a meal for two is around Rs.2500

TAAQ at Vapour

Vapour: Yet another brewery that has opened up in Indiranagar, this one has hit the right spot. An eclectic mix of rock pub and posh brewery, it’s barely a few months since it opened, but is already doing extremely well. With the typical six types of brew, they interestingly have some beer cocktails. Adding fruits, juices and other alcohols into the mix, the bartenders will make you a heady but smooth beer cocktail, and there’s live music too! Hit this place when you go brew pub hopping next.

Vapour is located on 100ft rd, Indiranagar and a beer is around Rs.300
