Deadline for The University of South Florida’s Abdul Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship extended

The deadline for the application of the Abdul Kalam Postgraduate Fellowship from The University of South Florida (USF) has been extended to March 1, 2017. The fellowship is exemplary for Indian students pursuing a PhD in Specified Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs.

President Kalam had visited USF in 2012 and is fondly remembered by the university and the vibrant Indian heritage community in Tampa Bay, Florida. He was a passionate advocate for youth and is honoured through the Fellowship.

The Fellowship was established in 2015 and named Avijit Sengupta as the first Kalam Fellow for the 2016-17 academic year. He is a design researcher from Kolkata and a graduate from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. Currently, Sengupta is conducting his PhD research at USF’s Muma College of Business on the development of interactive digital technology in the realm of informal learning and teaching.

The selected Kalam Fellow will receive $18,000 tuition per year. The Provost’s Office will pay a nine-month stipend for the first year with the department/college contributing a teaching/research assistantship for up to an additional three years.
