Known for leaking information regarding WhatsApp updates, The WABetaInfo account on twitter said that the instant messaging app is working on feature to track its members locations, live. This will in turn allow Whatsapp users track location of friends in real time.

The new feature will be functional on Whatsapp beta version 2.17.3.28 for iOS, 2.16.399+ on Android and will be disabled by default. Disabling the feature keeps people from learning where one is at any given moment.



“The tracking can be kept on for 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes, or indefinitely. This comes in handy if you are supposed to meet the gang at a certain location and time, and you want to see how far away from the destination every one in the group is,” phonearena.com reported.

Being disabled by default, the Live Location Tracking will need to be activated by Whatsapp once it is ready to be launched.

Recently, Whatsapp launched video calling features which was rolled out globally and is available on platforms – iOS, Windows and Android. In addition, the company had also added features to revoke, and edit, sent messages in a beta version last December. It is available for the iOS 2.17.1.869 platform.

Whatsapp is available in more than 50 different languages around the world and in 10 Indian languages for their 160 million users in India.
