We spoke with Zephyrtone whose single ‘Only You’ has received more than 2 million views already
Zephyrtone’s Only You was a product of one of their impromptu jam sessions and in comparison to their prior releases of high energy vocals and sets, it has a more sober feel.
Inspired by current pop sounds, soft lyrics and lyric video, Pune-based electronic duo, Zephyrtone just released the video for their single, ‘Only You’ and have already garnered more than 2 million views. Launched in 2015, Zephyrtone consists of Sayan, originally from Kolkata and Zephyr who hails from Ahmedabad but are both currently residing in Pune.
Zephyrtone’s Only You was a product of one of their impromptu jam sessions and in comparison to their prior releases of high energy vocals and sets, it has a more sober feel. It is emotionally driven which brings out a connectable vibe. The track talks about the ups and downs of being in a relationship which makes it relatable. The duo have performed their DJ + LIVE act at some of the biggest festivals and venues across the country with their productions have been supported by the likes of Porter Robinson, Bobby Burns and more. We caught up with them to find out more about their backstory, their future plans and more. Check it out:
Tell us a little bit about yourselves and how the Zephyrtone came about
Zephyr: I have done my western classical music course and I’ve cleared my Trinty Exams with distinction.
Sayan: I have completed my Indian classical music course.
We grew up listening to a lot of pop, RnB, hip hop, alternative rock. Music was inside our heads, minds and bodies. It’s just that we were introvert/shy to portray our music in public. We were bedroom singers and producers. It took a long time to come out of our shells, but yes we overcame all of it.
We are actually childhood friends, but we formed the duo in 2015.
In terms of being musicians, what is it that connects the two of you?
Zephyrtone: Well, we share similar musical ideas, similar thoughts and we feel we are destined to make music together. It’s a never ending bond that keeps us together. We are like twins and nothing separates us in any way.

How did you come up with the name Zephyrtone?
Zephyrtone: Zephyr means ‘cool breeze by the sea shore’. The music that we produce is soothing and you can listen to it anytime/anywhere. Our music is surely going to soothe you like a cool breeze by the sea shore. The name “Zephyrtone” goes along with our music so we decided to stick to it.
Independent music in India has definitely grown over the years but there is still much to be done, what do you think will help?
Zephyrtone: Yes, independent music in our country has definitely grown over the years, but there is still much to be done! We definitely agree.
If there is a dedicated music channel for only and only independent artists in our country, it would be of great help, as the Indian audience will get to know good Indian independent artists!
Musicians that inspire you?
Zephyrtone: The musicians that inspire us are Martin Garrix, The Chainsmokers, Avicii, Alesso, Krewella and Jonas Blue.
Only you – give us a gist of what’s the story and idea behind the track and video?
Zephyr: ‘Only you’ just happened out of creative fun. It was such a nice process. That’s how we love working. Sayan has great sounds that I can easily connect with.
When I wrote the lyrics for ‘only you’ and the melody fit in and hit the spot, we were like “ahh”. Now people can relate to it with their personal lives and dedicate it to their loved ones. That’s what we wanted from our song and that’s what actually happened! People are embracing our song and we are extremely overwhelmed to receive all the positive response. Thank you to all our fans!
Over 2 million views, were you expecting it?
Zephyrtone: Yes, we were expecting over a million views as it’s a very simple love song where people can relate to it with their personal lives and now it’s a favorite among the youngsters.
Three artists you would love to collaborate with?
Zephyrtone: Matthew Koma, Avicii and Coldplay.
What’s next on your agenda?
Zephyrtone: To go international and maintain our consistency in music making as musicians. Our future plans are all about music and music videos. And with every release it’s going to get bigger and better.
Where are your favourite places to perform and where would be your dream place to perform be?
Zephyrtone: Every city in India where we’ve performed till date has been amazing and energetic. But the top three cities we love performing are- Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi.
Some of the dream places where we want to perform are the main stages of Tomorrowland, Ultra and EDC.

We have to ask you this: Your fans want to know if you guys are a couple, what’s the story?
Zephyrtone: That’s one interesting question we have been receiving after our recent release ‘Only you’. No, we are not a couple and we don’t have any plans of dating at the moment because that’s like one big distraction.
