Chucky Creator Blasts Nicki Minaj Over ‘Vote Red’ Post: ‘The Killer Doll Is Anti-ICE’
Nicki Minaj has found herself at the center of another online controversy, this time involving one of horror cinema’s most recognizable characters. Child’s Play creator Don Mancini has publicly criticized the rapper after she shared an image of Chucky dressed in pink and promoting a Republican voting message on Election Day.
Nicki Minaj posted what appeared to be an AI-generated graphic featuring the infamous killer doll wearing a pink suit and a badge reading “Vote Red”. The image reflected her increasingly vocal support for US President Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. However, Mancini quickly rejected the political association, making it clear he had a very different vision for the character.
Don Mancini Calls Nicki Minaj’s Chucky Image an ‘Imposter’
Mancini responded directly to Minaj’s post on X, dismissing the Republican-themed version of his creation.
“IMPOSTER,” he wrote, adding that Chucky was part of the “BLUE WAVE” that would wash away corruption.
The filmmaker followed up with another post explaining why he believed the character could not be presented as a supporter of the Republican political movement.
“Chucky has a trans kid. Chucky protects the dolls. Chucky is anti-ICE,” Mancini wrote, before declaring that a blue political wave was coming.
He also shared a photograph of a Chucky doll sporting blue hair, accompanied by a pointed message directed at Minaj: “Too bad, Nicki! No AI, by the way!”
The exchange quickly drew attention because it pitted the creator of a major horror franchise against a global music star over the political use of a fictional character.

Why Chucky’s Creator Says the Character Is Not MAGA
Chucky’s association with LGBTQ+ representation is rooted in the franchise itself. The character’s child, Glen/Glenda, was introduced in the 2004 film Seed of Chucky, bringing gender identity and queer themes into the horror series.
The television adaptation continued that storyline. In one episode, Chucky refers to having a queer child, a detail Mancini used to underline why he rejects Minaj’s attempt to present the doll as a Republican supporter.
Created by Mancini, Chucky first appeared in the 1988 horror film Child’s Play. The character became the central figure in a long-running franchise featuring multiple films and a television series that ran for three seasons between 2021 and 2024.
Mancini’s comments were not simply about a political slogan. They also highlighted his opposition to having a character associated with LGBTQ+ representation and anti-ICE messaging repurposed for a political campaign without his approval.
Nicki Minaj’s Trump Support Draws Fresh Attention
Minaj has increasingly made her political preferences public, describing herself as one of Trump’s biggest supporters. Her appearance alongside the president during the midterm election campaign further highlighted her alignment with the Republican movement.
The Chucky image was not her first use of the character in political commentary. She had previously shared Chucky-related imagery while criticizing journalist Don Lemon over his reporting on anti-ICE protests.
The rapper has not publicly responded to Mancini’s latest criticism.
Midterm Election Results Add Another Twist
The controversy unfolded against the backdrop of a major Democratic victory in the US midterm elections. Democrats made significant gains, delivering a serious political setback for Trump and the Republican Party.
Trump attempted to distance himself from the outcome, arguing on Truth Social that Republicans would have secured a sweeping victory had he personally appeared on the ballot.
“I wasn’t on the ballot, and if I was, we would have won IN A LANDSLIDE,” he wrote.
Minaj also posted following the Democratic victory, although Mancini’s criticism of her Chucky image remained unanswered.
For now, the dispute has created an unexpected collision between celebrity politics and horror fandom. Mancini has made his position clear: the killer doll he created is not available for casual recruitment into Minaj’s political messaging.
