Rodic Announces ₹200 Crore AI Investment Initiative to Transform India’s Infrastructure Sector
Rodic Consultants has announced a ₹200 crore ($21 million USD) corporate venture initiative to back AI, deep-tech and technology startups, aiming to bring next-generation innovation into India’s highways, railways, bridges, tunnels and other infrastructure projects.
India’s infrastructure sector could be heading towards a major technology shift, with Rodic Consultants announcing a ₹200 crore corporate venture initiative to support startups and researchers developing artificial intelligence and next-generation engineering solutions.
The initiative will combine ₹100 crore committed by Rodic with an additional ₹100 crore expected from co-investors, including venture capital firms, angel investors, investment funds and ultra-high-net-worth individuals (UHNIs).
The initiative aims toaddress a persistent challenge for technology startups: securing not just funding, but also access to real infrastructure projects where they can test, refine, and deploy their products at scale.
Investment Push Targets India’s AI Startups
The proposed initiative will focus on startups, founders, researchers and academic teams developing technologies that can improve how infrastructure is planned, designed, constructed, monitored and maintained.
Rodic’s own commitment of ₹100 crore will form the foundation of the investment pool, with the company seeking to mobilize another ₹100 crore through external investors.
Unlike conventional funding programs, the initiative intends to combine investment capital with access to engineering expertise, live project environments and potential buyers across the public and private sectors.
The objective is to help promising technologies move beyond prototypes and pilot projects towards commercial deployment.
Raj Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of Rodic Consultants, said the infrastructure industry was entering a new phase in which technology would increasingly influence how physical assets are designed, delivered and maintained.
He highlighted the potential of AI, computer vision, drones, sensors and robotics to address infrastructure challenges, adding that innovators need access to real-world problems, project sites, engineering expertise and potential customers alongside financial support.
AI, Drones, Robotics and Digital Twins Among Priority Areas
Rodic plans to focus on a broad range of technologies with applications across India’s infrastructure ecosystem.
Priority areas include:
- Artificial intelligence and machine learning
- Physical AI and autonomous systems
- Drones and computer vision
- Sensors and Internet of Things (IoT)
- Robotics and automation
- Digital twins and geospatial technologies
- AI-powered engineering tools
- Advanced construction materials
- Climate technology and sustainable infrastructure solutions
These technologies could support applications ranging from automated site inspections and real-time construction monitoring to predictive maintenance, asset management and improved project safety.
The initiative will cover roads and highways, bridges, tunnels, metro systems, railways, power and energy, healthcare infrastructure, mining, agriculture, water management and other allied sectors.
Startups to Get Access to Live Infrastructure Projects
One of the initiative’s key features is its emphasis on practical deployment.
Selected startups will have opportunities to work with Rodic’s engineers and infrastructure specialists, understand project requirements, and test their solutions in relevant operating environments.
This could help young technology companies overcome a major barrier to entering the infrastructure market: proving their products can work reliably under real construction and operating conditions.
Rodic also plans to collaborate with universities and research institutions, creating opportunities to translate academic research into commercially deployable technologies.
The initiative will consider startups at different stages of development, as well as research teams with solutions applicable to physical infrastructure and assets.
Rodic Leverages 26 Years of Infrastructure Experience
The venture initiative builds on Rodic Consultants’ 26 years of infrastructure engineering experience.
Its work spans highways, bridges, tunnels, railways, metros, urban infrastructure, water, hydropower and mining.
By combining this sector-specific experience with technology investments, the company aims to support the development of Indian businesses that can build solutions for large-scale infrastructure requirements.
The broader ambition is to accelerate AI-enabled infrastructure planning, predictive maintenance, real-time asset monitoring, safer project execution and more resilient construction practices.
How Startups Can Apply for Rodic’s AI Initiative
Rodic says the initiative will operate under a defined governance framework to evaluate investment opportunities and support innovation.
The company will also host the Rodic InfraAI Conclave 2027 on January 22, 2027. The event will bring together government representatives, infrastructure companies, investors, technology founders and researchers to discuss the role of AI and emerging technologies in India’s infrastructure development.
With its ₹100 crore commitment and plans to mobilize matching external investment, Rodic is positioning the initiative as a bridge between India’s technology startup ecosystem and its expanding infrastructure market.
The larger test will be whether these investments can help move AI and deep-tech innovations out of laboratories and demonstrations and into the roads, railways, bridges and other infrastructure projects that millions of Indians depend on.
