Meritnation, an e-learning site has raised a funding round worth Rs.25 crore from Sanjeev Bikhchandani’s Info Edge. Using the funds, the company plans to improve its technology that goes into Meritnation LIVE. It also plans to increase its workforce by hiring teachers and expanding its broadcast studios.
Meritnation was founded by Pavan Chauhan and Ritesh Hemrajani in 2007. The company claims to have a student database of over 90 lakh students on its online platform and hosts over 14,000 animation videos, tests, homework help forums and interactive exercises.
Info Edge has been a notable investor in Meritnation in its earlier funding rounds as well. Earlier in December 2013, the company had raised Rs. 10 crore from Info Edge which was used in creating and updating content, brand building and strengthening its sales team. This year in February, Meritnation successfully launched six offline digital learning centers. The model that these centers were based on was piloted in Gurgaon in 2012.
Launched last year in November, Meritnation LIVE, an online lecture program targets CBSE students between classes 6th to 10th. Faculty chosen by the company provide online lectures on Science and Maths. Today, the online platform offers study solutions till class 12th as well as for engineering exams like JEE and AIPMT. Furthermore, the company launched study material for the aforementioned classes for the Maharashtra Board in April 2013.
