We love Chris Martin. The world loves Chris Martin. Coldplay is like Raymond. Everybody loves it. But soon after actress-singer Gwyneth Paltrow, now ex-wife of Coldplay’s frontman Chris Martin, decided to come out with a note to the press stating their separation, of mutual understanding with Martin of course, under a title called ‘Conscious Uncoupling’, it threw open a hornet’s nest.
Though the note says they were trying to make it work for the last year, we suspect hints of the separation in Coldplay’s other songs from the last decade. Ironically enough, we joined the dots for seven of his songs that hypothetically mark the state of the relationship. Here’s a collection of popular Coldplay songs that will probably be playing on Chris Martin’s tape – A predictive chart that traces the flow of the love life.
Magic
This song from Coldplay’s upcoming album Ghost Stories pretty much describes how the first few years of the relationship were – new, imaginative, and, for lack of a better word, magical. Is the album called Ghost Stories because it is pre-emptive about the love? Dead and ghost-like? Just saying.
Hurts Like Heaven
The ecstasy of this upbeat song portrays the love that was frolicking in the air until they started to feel a thorn in the cushioning. The couple however never cared because the agony was far lesser and more futuristic an ordeal as compared to the ecstasy.
Warning Sign
Here’s when the plot started to thicken. The lyrics can speak for themselves:
“A warning sign I missed the good part, then I realised I started looking and the bubble burst I started looking for excuses”
Shiver
When fear climbs, the body has a reflexive reaction. It shivers. This was the next stage, nearly at the beginning of 2013, when the couple started evaluating their differences. It was the point when they started playing cold.
Trouble
One knows when trouble is brewing. The web of troubles that enmeshed both of them went something like this:
“Oh, no, what’s this? A spider web, and I’m caught in the middle, So I turned to run, The thought of all the stupid things I’ve done.”
The Hardest Part
It’s only when the festering has carried on for long, beyond a point of no return, that the hardest part sinks in. The ‘With or Without You’ syndrome.
Fix You
When collision is inevitable, straying paths is the safest bet. They decided to fix each other by letting go amicably and professionally, or so the world was led to believe.
It’s okay, Chrissy, don’t be sad. The pain will just inspire you to a new set of albums. You genius, you! But then again, why are we only sympathizing with Chris Martin and not Gwyneth Paltrow? Well, we’ll leave that for another edition.
