Swedish metal act Deathember, who toured India in February to great acclaim, have put out their tour blog video replete with live gig footage and their experiences to be featured on the Going Postal Ltd. Edition CD. We interviewed Elias, drummer and founder of the band, before their tour, to see what they expected playing in a new country. As he says, “We don’t really know what to expect! We’re really looking forwards towards meeting and getting to know the Indian metal scene. We will be bringing our A-Game to this show and we expect some insane moshpits to go with it!” (Read full interview here)

Going Postal, their debut 2013 album and the reason for the tour saw the band’s sound evolve and mature into the live dynamic that it is today – a walloping groove metal act. Featuring 11 tracks including guest appearances by Daniel Ädel (Vildhjarta, Uneven Structure) and Ralph Santolla (DEICIDE, OBITUARY, ICED EARTH, et al) their unique strain of sound was quite different from their 2011 EP A Thousand Flatlines. With influences from Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, SikTh, Daath, Gojira, Protest The Hero and Soilwork bands like Deathember are quickly becoming common on niche metal playlists. The two-city tour, organised by Metamorphik Productions, saw the band play at IIT-Hyderabad and NIT, Silchar. With rock competitions preceding the shows, this gave (add college/young/etc) bands a chance to open for the Deathember. They have now released two broadcasts featuring footage from India.

Having toured with several internationally recognised bands like toured with bands such as Six Feet Under and Debauchery, Deathember took the Indian metal crowd by storm in both cities. Thrusting their Swedish groove metal into the nooks and crannies of Indian urban college youth, the tour was an extremely effective method of introducing the average metal head to the random foreign metal act. Several upcoming metal bands, especially Scandinavian, having visited India over the last few years. It goes to show that there is still a keen and avid interest, even financially, in the sub-categories of such a niche genre.

When asked about a new album and future plans, Elias replied “We’ve been working on new material for about 6 months now. We will record a new release this year. We just can’t share with you what it is and when it’s going to be released just yet. We’re taking a couple of months off touring after these shows in India to get all of the song-writing and pre-production wrapped up. After that we’ll be doing as much touring as possible.”
