Get Set for Antarangni: A Mega Culfest
Antaragni, the annual cultural fest of IIT Kanpur is a four-day long event with more than 200 other colleges participating every year. It began in 1964 with a simple inter-collegiate fest called Culfest and since 1993 has changed its moniker to Antaragni.
The cultural festival will be organised from 24th to 27th October this year. With each passing year the thrill for the four day festival only seems to increase. Apart from all the professional performances and events, there is a place nicknamed “The Mall”. The SAC (Student Activity Centre) ground hosts an audience of more than 10,000 people in and around all the 4 days of the festival. It is the backbone of the festival, source of constant fun and on-the-spot activities to keep the crowd interested and coming back. It has a number of fun, wacky and spontaneous events and offers loads of entertainment to the participants and the crowd alike.
This year, Antaragni will have two new additions, including classical night and European Film Festival which would be presented by the delegation of European Union. A total of 12 movies from 12 countries would be screened over the four days of the festival. They also said that a special question and answer session with the Bollywood artists, including Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Tigmanshu Dhulia, would be organised. Musically too, there is a lot to take.
The first night, Prima Nocte, will feature legends India Ocean rocking out to their tunes, along with Bonney Men, an Irish rock band. Day Two will feature a Classical Night, with Krishna N and Shubdra Desai performing. There will also be a Kavi Sammelan. The rock show on the third day, Synchronicity, will see several bands compete for the prize including names such as Nice Weather For Ducks. Flying Eyes, an American Rock Band would be headlining this night. Finally there will be the Blitzkrieg night, whose headliner is yet to be announced.
There’s something for everyone at this festival. Musicians, writers, artists, sociologists, economists, Antaragni will have something just for you.
