Weekend Collection Volume 1

Yes, we’re talking about that moment when you stop in your tracks and go “What’s that track?” Our shazam moments are dear to us, and we’re constantly musing, collecting, sharing, not songs but moments, winter frost, sadcore indulgences, happy colours of pop and other arbitrary abstractions we indulge in. For moments like these, we bring you our Weekend Collection our songs of the moment which we are humming this week.

Kings of Leon – Beautiful War

The track, which started off as a concept in the same album as their popular hit ‘Use Somebody’, was recorded whilst drunk by the frontman Caleb Followill. Now, in its entirety, it is being featured on the bands’ sixth album, Mechanical Bull. Click here to watch the video.

Atoms For Peace – Before your very eyes

This dream combo between Thom Yorke of Radiohead and Flea of Red Hot Chili Peppers is doing extremely well with multi-city tours after their LP release. The band, who recently removed their music from the well known site Spotif, had this video directed specially by Andrew Thomas Huang, who has also done work for Sigur Rós, so check it out here.

The XX – Together

It featured in The Great Gatsby and it’s a haunting tune. It sounds like what a well known music writer described as a ‘sound drip’, and the band specifically composed the song together, with every member adding individual inputs for the structuring of the song. Have a look and decide for yourself.

Do I Wanna Know – Arctic Monkeys – This one’s got a lot of press with the hugely celebrated release of the album AM, but with reason. Epic stuff. Sticking to the same kind of dynamic from where they left off in the last album, this song is slightly more downtempo, but with the same harsh guitar tones that initially earned them recognition. Definitely one of the better rock tracks of the last year. Here it is for all you soundplunge_test readers.

Incursion – Analyzed Consequences

This is a relatively new band from Chennai that already has an album out based heavily in the holy dynamic of Djent. For a mostly-bedroom production, the sound quality is quite unparalleled and with some deep chugging 7-string guitars, the entire album packs quite a punch. Have a listen here.

Junkyard Groove- In your Eyes

The brand new album by don’t-give-a-shit rockers Junkyard Groove, Accidental Hero, is finally out. With a long wait, the audience can be quite demanding. However, some tracks on the record are pure bliss, with frontman Ameeth’s voice just rising above the melody in typical Chennai groove fashion. In Your Eyes is a great rock track to chill out to.

So there you have it! Our very own playlist of some of the funkiest local and international sounds going around, with songs chosen by our own writers. We hope you enjoyed the tracks, and make sure to tune in next week for a whole different set of songs!
