Justin Timberlake Joins Jay-Z in Paris for Rare ‘Holy Grail’ Performance
Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z just gave Paris a reunion fans didn’t expect. Timberlake made a surprise appearance during Jay-Z’s 30th anniversary tour stop at Stade de France on September 10, bringing their iconic collaboration “Holy Grail” back to the stage in a rare live performance.
The moment immediately became one of the biggest highlights of Jay-Z’s sold-out Paris show, with footage of the two stars performing together spreading across social media.
Justin Timberlake, 45, later shared photos from the performance on Instagram, captioning the post simply, “PARIS 🇫🇷 @JAYZ.” Producer Timbaland, who worked on “Holy Grail,” reacted to the post with an enthusiastic “Let’s gooooo.”

Originally released in 2013, “Holy Grail” appeared on Jay-Z’s album Magna Carta Holy Grail and became one of the defining collaborations between two major artists of their generation.
The song examines the darker side of fame, exploring how celebrity attention can be both intoxicating and destructive. Its themes made the Paris performance particularly fitting for Jay-Z’s anniversary tour, which celebrates three decades of his career.
Roc Nation shared dramatic footage of Justin Timberlake and Jay-Z walking onto the stage together, using Timberlake’s section of “Holy Grail” as the soundtrack.
But the collaboration was not the only surprise Timberlake had in store.
Timberlake Takes Over the Piano
After joining Jay-Z for “Holy Grail,” Timberlake remained on stage and moved to the piano for a performance of “Until the End of Time.”
The stripped-back moment sharply contrasted with the enormous stadium production surrounding the artists, giving the crowd an unexpected change of pace.
Jay-Z’s Paris concert reportedly stretched across 35 songs, turning the Stade de France show into a sprawling celebration of his catalog.
The rapper opened with “On to the Next One” before moving through major hits including “Big Pimpin’,” “Izzo,” “Jigga My,” “Hard Knock Life,” and “99 Problems.”
Pharrell Williams Also Joins Jay-Z
Timberlake was not the only major surprise guest.
Pharrell Williams appeared during the middle portion of the concert for a five-song run of collaborations with Jay-Z, including “Excuse Me Miss,” “La La La,” “I Just Wanna Love U (Give It 2 Me),” “Frontin’” and “Allure.”
The appearance served as another reminder of Jay-Z’s enormous influence across hip-hop, R&B and pop music.
The guest-heavy evening also reportedly attracted an impressive list of celebrities and sports figures, adding to the event’s star power.
The Story Behind ‘Holy Grail’
“Holy Grail” was conceived as a centerpiece of Magna Carta Holy Grail, with Jay-Z previously explaining that the song reflected his complicated relationship with fame.
In a 2013 interview, Jay-Z described celebrity as something he knew could become dangerous, drawing on the experiences of famous figures who had struggled with its consequences.
He also praised Timberlake’s performance.
Jay-Z called Timberlake one of the great singers of their generation and said he had never heard him perform quite like he did on “Holy Grail.”
More than a decade later, their Paris reunion demonstrated why the collaboration remains so memorable.
Timberlake’s wife, actress Jessica Biel, was also in Paris for the occasion and shared photos from the trip, writing, “Paris is for lovers.”

Jay-Z’s 30th Anniversary Tour Continues
The Paris show marked Jay-Z’s return to Stade de France nearly a decade after his previous appearance there during the On the Run II tour with Beyoncé.
Now performing on his own terms, Jay-Z is continuing his JAŸ-Z 30 anniversary run with more major dates ahead.
The next major stop is scheduled for Los Angeles on October 23, 2026, at SoFi Stadium.
