Skoda Auto will be setting a new precedence with the all new Kushaq Compact SUV, the carmaker’s first Made in India vehicle. It will also mark the debut of Volkswagen Group’s highly-localised MQB-A0-IN platform, developed specifically for the Indian market.
The word is that Skoda Kushaq will have a 2,671mm wheelbase, which will definitely be complemented with a generous interior space. Images show a highly sophisticated cabin and interiors. According to HT Auto, there will be a free-standing 10-inch digital instrument cluster which will be one of the key highlights inside the Kushaq. The exterior body colour theme will also continue inside the cabin, contributing to its premium appeal.
Skoda’s newest SUV is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which is an extension of the Volkswagen Group’s Modular Transverse Toolkit. The same platform will be used on the VW’s upcoming Taigun SUV, a technical twin to Skoda’s Kushaq SUV. The carmaker initially announced the Kushaq in 2018 and then showcased the prototype Vision IN.
It will come with Skoda’s latest theme. The split headlamp design with LED daytime running lamps and full LED headlamps will be quite distinct looking in the car. The fog lamps are positioned down below and the distinct Skoda grille will give it an identity. Moreover, its 17-inch alloy wheels and functional roof rails will also increase its height. If you are more into the interior, then here’s some juicy bits for you. The SUV has a layered dashboard set-up with a thin chrome bar running across. There is a freestanding infotainment system in the middle that will offer a range of high-tech features. For the driver, there is the benefit of the Skoda Virtual cockpit’s view with a fully digital instrument cluster.
The SUV is loaded with a 1.0 litre turbocharged petrol and a much more powerful 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine. As per reports, the highly powered version will get a dual-clutch automatic transmission, while the 1.0 litre version is likely to get a CVT unit; both engine options offer manual transmission options as well.
Set to give the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos SUVs a run for its money, Kushaq will be launched in a price range of Rs 11.50 lakh to 16 lakh (ex-showroom).
