Liminal Takes Aim at Institutional Crypto Liquidity With New Prime OTC Suite
Liminal has launched Liminal Prime, a new institutional digital asset suite targeting OTC trading, stablecoin liquidity and direct connectivity with liquidity providers as crypto adoption moves deeper into mainstream finance.
The next battle in institutional crypto may no longer be about simply storing digital assets. Liminal bets it will be about how institutions trade them, access liquidity, and move stablecoins at scale.
The institutional digital asset infrastructure provider has launched Liminal Prime, an enterprise software suite designed to give licensed exchanges, financial institutions, payment providers, fintech companies, market makers, corporate treasuries and OTC desks access to principal-to-principal OTC dealing and liquidity-provider connectivity.
The Hong Kong-based company says the new offering expands its existing wallet and key-management infrastructure into the increasingly competitive institutional trading and liquidity market.
Liminal Makes a Major Institutional Crypto Push
Liminal Prime is built around three standalone products: White-Glove OTC, Electronic OTC (eOTC) and Bridge.
The modular structure lets institutions select individual services rather than replace infrastructure they already use. Institutions can license and deploy products separately, depending on their operational and regulatory requirements.
That could matter as banks, fintechs, payment companies, and corporate treasuries move digital assets from experimentation into everyday operations.
Liminal says its existing infrastructure has processed more than US$100 billion in on-chain transactions across more than 20 blockchain networks for institutions spanning more than 12 countries.
White-Glove OTC Targets Big, Sensitive Crypto Trades
For institutions executing large or complicated transactions, Liminal is pitching White-Glove OTC as a dedicated human-led dealing service.
Instead of an automated trading flow, institutions can contact Liminal’s dealing desk, receive a price and confirm the transaction directly.
Where permitted by local regulations, Liminal can act as principal counterparty for its own account, buying and selling digital assets. The product targets licensed institutions where transaction size, confidentiality, and customized execution are particularly important.
eOTC Brings Automated Institutional Trading
The second product, Electronic OTC, targets organizations that handle recurring, high-frequency digital asset transactions.
Through both a graphical user interface and API connectivity, institutions can access streaming and firm quotes for systematic dealing. The offering is designed to provide always-on pricing without requiring a manual conversation for every transaction.
Subject to applicable local licensing requirements, Liminal can act as principal counterparty for its own account.
The pitch is straightforward: institutions that have outgrown manual OTC dealing can connect their trading operations directly to an electronic execution workflow.
Bridge Connects Institutions With Their Own Liquidity Providers
Bridge takes a different approach.
Rather than acting as the counterparty, Liminal provides technology that lets institutions request quotes from liquidity providers they have independently onboarded and approved.
Institutions can use a single screen or API to interact with those providers. Liminal says it does not operate an exchange, brokerage or trading venue and does not take custody of assets through Bridge.
Instead, its role is limited to routing quote requests, displaying prices and facilitating communication. The institution and its selected liquidity provider handle the trade and settlement directly under their bilateral agreement.
Stablecoins Become the Bigger Institutional Opportunity
The launch comes as stablecoins, tokenized assets and blockchain-based payment infrastructure increasingly move toward production use cases.
Liminal argues that institutional customers have largely moved past the initial question of how to securely hold digital assets. Their next challenge is operational: how to trade, manage liquidity and execute transactions without creating additional counterparty or compliance risks.
Rajesh Sabari, Chief Commercial Officer at Liminal, said the company was responding to growing demand from institutions looking to operationalize digital assets at scale.
Clarence Leong, Senior Manager – Institutional Markets, said institutions now need practical solutions for real treasury, payment and liquidity requirements rather than theoretical discussions about digital assets.
Major Geographic Restrictions Remain
Despite the expansion, Liminal Prime is not universally available.
White-Glove OTC and Electronic OTC are restricted and unavailable to entities operating or residing in the UAE, India, Singapore and Taiwan, as well as jurisdictions where local law prohibits their use.
Bridge remains subject to applicable local regulatory requirements.
Liminal says it provides its technology strictly as infrastructure to authorized entities, with users responsible for meeting their own local regulatory obligations.
The company says Liminal Prime is the first stage of a broader infrastructure strategy to support institutions across digital asset custody infrastructure, OTC trading, liquidity connectivity, tokenization, cross-border payments, and enterprise treasury operations.
Important Notice
White-Glove OTC and Electronic OTC (eOTC) are restricted and unavailable to entities operating or residing in the UAE, India, Singapore and Taiwan, as well as any jurisdiction where local laws prohibit their use. Bridge is available subject to local regulatory requirements. Note: Users are solely responsible for ensuring compliance with all local regulations before attempting to access any of our services.
The article deliberately highlights the India restriction because it is particularly relevant to Indian readers and prevents the story from implying that all three Liminal Prime products are immediately available in India.
