The Revenant is what resonated throughout Golden Globes 2016

The 73rd edition of the much awaited Golden Globe Awards was organised recently in Beverly Hills, California. The 2016 edition also saw the Golden Globe stage honoring the best talent in film and American television for the preceding year.

This year, it was ‘The Revenant’ all way. It won the best dramatic motion picture and the leading man Leonardo DiCaprio walked away with the award of best actor in a drama. The Golden Globes also awarded Alejandro G Inarritu for the movie direction. Now, the expectations are set high for the Oscar nominations.

In the comedy or musical film category, Martian won the best film award, also winning a further Globe for star Matt Damon in the same category.

In the category of best actress in a drama, Room star Brie Larson received the award and Jennifer Lawrence won best comedy actress. Brie Larson’s win — as the best actress (drama) for the harrowing movie ‘Room’ based on Emma Donoghue’s novel — is being quoted as the biggest surprise in the international media.

The Golden Globe stage was also set to welcome the British award winners with Kate Winslet, winning the best supporting actress award for her role in Steve Jobs, much to her surprise. There are media reports doing the rounds that she has not even prepared a speech — as there were no humble expectations.  Other awards includes, singer Sam Smith for his Bond track Writing’s On The Wall and the BBC’s adaptation of Wolf Hall was named best mini-series-hailing from the British land.

The ceremony was organised by production House- Dick Clark Productions and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association.

The announcement of the nominees was made last year in December at the Beverly Hilton by Angela Bassett, America Ferrera, Chloë Grace Moretz and Dennis Quaid. An audience favorite Ricky Gervais hosted the show for the fourth time.

There were certain films which won recognition under multiple award categories. The list includes, Mr. Robot, Mozart in the Jungle, The Revenant, The Martian and Steve Jobs.

At the end, the ceremony ended on a high note, with the winners walking away with a big smile on their faces. A photo glimpse of the red carpet glamour can be caught on the internet.
