Cancer patients in Chennai could gain easier access to advanced genomic testing as 4baseCare partners with Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, in a new precision oncology collaboration.

Bengaluru-based precision oncology company 4baseCare has partnered with Cancer Institute (WIA), Adyar, Chennai, to expand access to comprehensive genomic profiling and bring advanced molecular testing directly into the institute’s laboratory.

The collaboration marks 4baseCare’s first laboratory partnership with a cancer center in Chennai and aims to make precision oncology testing more accessible and affordable for patients in Chennai and surrounding regions.

Genomic Testing Moves Closer to Patients

The partnership combines Cancer Institute (WIA)’s long-standing cancer-care ecosystem with 4baseCare’s expertise in genomic testing and precision oncology.

Under the collaboration, the institute’s laboratory will offer comprehensive genomic profiling. The move is designed to make it easier for oncologists to access molecular information while patients continue to receive care in a familiar clinical setting.

Genomic profiling examines a tumor’s molecular characteristics and can identify genomic alterations relevant to treatment planning. Depending on a patient’s cancer and clinical circumstances, such information may help doctors consider targeted therapies or potential clinical-trial opportunities.

The company said accessibility and affordability are central to the initiative.

Cancer Institute Highlights Molecular Oncology

Dr Kalpana Balakrishnan, Medical Director and CEO of Cancer Institute (WIA), said the institution has a long-standing commitment to providing cancer care that remains accessible to patients.

She said bringing advanced genomic testing closer to patients could strengthen the use of molecular insights in cancer care while keeping patient needs at the center.

The initiative was championed at the institute by Dr Vijayalakshmi Ramshankar, Professor and Head of the Department of Cancer Biology & Molecular Diagnostics.

Her work in molecular oncology played a key role in bringing comprehensive genomic testing into the institute’s laboratory and clinical practice.

“Molecular insights are becoming central to how we diagnose and treat cancer,” Ramshankar said, adding that having comprehensive genomic profiling available within the institute could support faster and more informed decisions by oncologists.

She also highlighted the relevance of genomic testing based on Indian genomic data for the patients served by the institution.

4baseCare Expands Precision Oncology Footprint

For 4baseCare, the Chennai partnership represents another step in its effort to expand access to precision cancer care across India.

The company combines genomic testing, clinico-genomic datasets, real-world evidence and AI-powered analytics to support cancer-care decision-making. Its portfolio includes tissue and liquid biopsy profiling, HRD testing and germline testing.
