Folk Musician Peter Seeger Dies at 94
American folk singer-songwriter Peter Seeger, the man behind the historic protest song “We Shall Over Someday”, died on Monday, January 27 at the age of 94 in his sleep while in hospital. An activist, member of the 60s band The Weavers, and an advocator of American folk music, Seeger was a man who believed in the power of folk and its strength to change social patterns and preserve American heritage.
Among contributions to America’s socio-political milieu, Seeger will be most fondly remembered for his songs for the Labour Movement in the 1940s and 1950s, for civil rights marches and anti-Vietnam War rallies in the 1960s, and for environmental and anti-war causes in the 1970s.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we shall overcome, someday.
