The Incredible MindFunk Release Debut Album

After winning the NLS Bangalore’s Strawberry Fields rock festival in November, funk-psychedelic rock outfit The Incredible MindFunk is out with its debut album titled Absolutely Essential. Through the seven singles, the album attempts to address the seven phases an individual goes through, in his/her mind, when faced with a problem. Since its inception in 2011, the band has gone through a series of line-up changes, which in a way has allowed them to experiment with a set of genres.

Their off-beat name has an interesting backstory to it. Guitarist Siddhant Agarwal narrates, “Well it’s kind of a weird double play on words. You know how we’ve all had that one friend whose room we’d barge into, thwack him across the face and yell ‘Dude, you need to get out of your funk.’ The ‘Incredible’ is there well, because when you’re stuck in that funk, reflecting on whatever it is that’s messing with your head is incredibly shitty. And, since all of this is at the end of the day in our minds, The Incredible MindFunk just seemed to ring a bell. The name seemed to fit perfectly as we saw ourselves drawing inspiration from past experiences, good and bad.”

They have even put up their music on various sites for free streaming, despite selling hardcopies at My Addiction and digital versions on OK Listen (read our interview with OK Listen here).

Siddhant says, “We’re putting it up for streaming quite frankly because we want more people to hear us. But even so, if anyone really digs our stuff and wants the complete experience, they can go and get the physical copy with everything in it”

The Incredible MindFunk will play at Hard Rock Café, Delhi on December 12 along with indie rockers Barefaced Liar. For updates, see here.
