Doormint shuts down operation in Bangalore and Gurgaon

As per reports, Mumbai-based home services platform Doormint has shut down its operations in certain parts of Bangalore and Gurgaon. The reason for such a decision is still unknown.

The company has updated its users in Bangalore stating the specific areas the services have been temporarily suspended.

Started in December 2014 by three IIT alumni Abhinav Agarwal, Naman Lahoty, and Piyush Ranjan, in a bid to solve the home service professionals, their services included on-demand electrician, plumber, carpenter, electronic appliances repair and pest control.

DoorMint provides hassle free, punctual and transparent utility services at your doorstep. They aim at eliminating customer effort in multiple follow-ups, negotiations and deliver a good customer experience.

It, however, later restricted the services to laundry and presently only provides dry Cleaning, wash and iron, wash and fold, steam ironing, express service, etc to its users.

The Indian laundry industry is estimated at a huge Rs 2, 20, 000 crores, of which the unorganised market, which includes dhobis, maidservants, and mom-and-pop stores, is valued at Rs 5,000 Cr.

The sector is fragmented with 7, 67, 000 establishments, 98% of which are micro-sized laundries with fewer than 10 workers. The organised segment comprises a mere 2-3% of the entire laundry market in India.

The laundry services are touted as a billion dollar opportunity even with a conservative estimate. It is still difficult to understand what led to Doormint to close its operations.
