Mobile services marketplace UrbanClap lends hand to water-less Maharashtra
Lending out a hand to find a solution to the ever-growing water crisis in Maharashtra, UrbanClap, a mobile services marketplace, has come with an initiative where they are offering to fix all leaking water taps and pipes at the residents’ homes for free.
The initiative started from Friday, April 15, where the company invited the people of the state to place the request on the mobile app and they will send professionals to the houses.
Speaking on the initiative, Abhiraj Bhal, Co-founder UrbanClap, said, “One leaky tap results in approximately 20,000 litres of water being wasted in a year. When the Maharashtra CM announced that 900 million litres of water is being lost each day in Mumbai, we wanted to do our bit to help conserve water. In this initiative, we will bear the costs of all the services.”
“Those who wish to avail of this service can log on to the app, place a request for Save Water Mumbai, and trained plumbers from UrbanClap will visit them. The activity will run for a week, until Friday, April 22nd, keeping the convenience of the customers in mind,” added Bhal.
Maharashtra has received below-average rainfall for the last two monsoons throwing the state in the grip of acute water shortage. However, many big companies have come forward to help the state.
Last year, a team from Tata Motors, Tata Power, Indian Hotels, Tata Consulting Engineers and Tata Communications headed to the drought-affected districts of the Marathwada.
After evaluation and interaction with the natives, the team decided to adopt an integrated approach towards relief work to be carried out in three districts of the region -Latur, Beed and Osmanabad.
Rallis India is running an on-going Jal Dhan programme in Beed, Latur, Akola and Chiplun in Maharashtra and Voltas has rolled out its Drought Response Programme across Osmanabad and Latur districts, focusing on supplying water tankers.
