iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Launch: Apple Just Changed the Camera, Battery and AI Game

Apple has officially unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and this year’s Pro upgrade focuses on the features users notice most: camera performance, battery life, sustained power, and artificial intelligence.

The new flagship iPhones introduce a 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture, Apple’s A20 Pro chip, a redesigned vapor chamber and a smaller Dynamic Island. The iPhone 18 Pro Max also gets what Apple describes as the biggest battery-life increase ever delivered on an iPhone.

Pre-orders begin September 12, with sales starting September 18. India is among the first wave of more than 65 countries and regions.

Apple Finally Gives the iPhone a Variable-Aperture Camera

The biggest photography change is hiding inside the new 48MP Fusion Main camera.

For the first time in the Pro lineup, Apple is adding variable aperture, giving photographers greater control over light, low-light performance, and depth of field.

Apple has also added new Pro controls inside the Camera app, pushing the iPhone further toward the territory of dedicated cameras.

The system is designed to give users more control over how images and video look, rather than relying on automatic processing.

The company is also upgrading Photographic Styles and adding tools such as Spatial Reframing, Extend, and an improved Clean Up feature through Apple Intelligence.

A20 Pro Is Built to Stay Cool

Apple is also attacking one of the biggest problems with increasingly powerful smartphones: heat.

The A20 Pro is paired with a next-generation vapor chamber designed to keep the iPhone 18 Pro running at high performance for longer periods.

Apple says the redesigned thermal system has three times the surface area of the previous-generation iPhone 17 Pro system and can enable up to a 40% gain in sustained performance.

That could matter particularly for demanding gaming, video processing and AI workloads.

The iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max also feature a smaller Dynamic Island and a redesigned aluminum unibody. Both models come in black, silver, glacier and the new burgundy finish.

iPhone 18 Pro Max Gets a Battery Monster Upgrade

Battery life is another major selling point.

Apple says the iPhone 18 Pro Max can deliver up to 45 hours of video playback globally, while Apple’s India specifications list up to 43 hours under its regional testing disclosure.

The eSIM-only versions make additional room for battery capacity by removing the physical SIM slot.

Apple also says the iPhone 18 Pro can reach 50% charge in around 15 minutes with compatible charging equipment.

Siri AI Finally Gets More Ambitious

The iPhone 18 Pro launches alongside iOS 27 and the next generation of Apple Intelligence, including Siri AI in beta.

The revamped Siri is designed to understand personal context across messages, emails, and photos. It can also use on-screen awareness to take actions based on what users are viewing.

Apple is positioning Siri less as a voice-command tool and more as an AI assistant that understands what users are doing.

Siri AI will initially roll out in English, with additional languages planned for October. Some features will have regional limitations, including Siri AI’s initial absence on iOS in the EU.

Apple says its AI approach combines on-device processing with Private Cloud Compute to protect user information.

India Price Starts at ₹1,79,900

For Indian buyers, the Apple iPhone 18 Pro price starts at ₹1,79,900 for 256GB, according to Apple India. The 2TB model reaches ₹3,29,900.

The Apple iPhone 18 Pro Max price starts at ₹1,79,900 for the 256GB configuration on Apple’s India store, with higher storage options available.

Both models come in 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB capacities.

Pre-orders in India open at 5:30 PM IST on September 12, with availability beginning September 18.

The iPhone 18 Pro Is More Than a Spec Upgrade

Apple is clearly betting that the next iPhone upgrade will not be about one headline feature.

It is combining a more flexible camera, stronger sustained performance, dramatically improved battery life, and a more capable AI assistant into the same device.

And with the Pro Max pushing battery life into territory previously out of reach for flagship smartphones, Apple has given buyers a very different reason to upgrade.

The question now is whether the iPhone 18 Pro’s biggest leap is actually the camera, the battery, or the AI.
