The Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department is looking to enhance ecotourism opportunities at Udhaila Lake in Ayodhya, a renowned destination for nature lovers and bird watchers. On October 4, 2024, Jaiveer Singh, the Minister of Tourism and Culture for Uttar Pradesh, announced a significant development project around Udhaila Lake, with the Uttar Pradesh Eco Tourism Development Board investing nearly Rs 4 crore.
Udhaila Lake, located in the Milkipur region of Ayodhya, is a popular spot for migratory birds, drawing photographers and birdwatchers nationwide. With this new initiative, the state aims to enhance the eco-tourist experience by developing better infrastructure and facilities. The board has allocated Rs 3.81 crore to construct essential tourist amenities such as a children’s play area, ghats, a canteen, cottages, parking facilities, an entrance gate, a guard room, ticket counters, a viewing mound, and a nature trail.
This move is part of Uttar Pradesh’s broader effort to promote itself as a top ecotourism destination. The state’s natural resources and rich cultural heritage make it ideal for ecotourism, rural tourism, and spiritual tourism. According to Jaiveer Singh, the initiative aligns with the state’s strategy to diversify its tourism offerings beyond religious tourism, which brings millions of visitors to Ayodhya annually. From January to June 2024, approximately 330 million tourists visited Uttar Pradesh, with Ayodhya alone attracting 110 million visitors.
The development of Udhaila Lake is expected to provide a unique, sustainable tourism experience, contributing to the local economy while preserving the natural environment. The planned facilities will help enhance the area’s attractiveness and cater to a growing global demand for eco-friendly travel experiences.
This initiative also reflects Uttar Pradesh’s commitment to offering diverse tourism opportunities, positioning itself as a major player in India’s growing ecotourism market.
