Will Reeve Joins James Gunn’s Superman in Touching Tribute to Father Christopher Reeve

The legacy of Superman is about to come full circle. Will Reeve, son of the late and legendary Christopher Reeve, will make a cameo in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film, marking an emotional and symbolic tribute to the man who defined the character for generations.

Will Reeve, now an ABC News correspondent, has been cast as a TV reporter in the film, currently being shot in Cleveland, Ohio. Set to release on July 11, 2025, the movie stars David Corenswet as Superman and is both written and directed by James Gunn, the co-chair of DC Studios.

The announcement has sparked excitement and nostalgia across the comic book community, as the younger Reeve steps into a project deeply tied to his father’s legacy. Christopher Reeve became an icon after portraying Superman and Clark Kent in four major films between 1978 and 1987, a role that still defines the Man of Steel’s cinematic identity.

From Legacy to Cameo

Will Reeve’s role may be brief, but the emotional weight behind it is monumental. Captured on set during a key sequence, his presence serves as a bridge between the past and the future of the Superman franchise. According to local Cleveland media, Reeve was seen filming scenes alongside other reporters, adding a meta-layer to his casting as he plays a version of himself in a fictional world his father helped build.

This cameo also reflects the growing connection between the Reeve family and DC Studios, especially as interest in all things Superman soars. Will and his siblings, Matthew and Alexandra Reeve, are also involved in the upcoming documentary “Super/Man,” which chronicles their father’s life, career, and remarkable resilience following a paralysing accident in 1995.

“The majority of my memories of my dad involve him after the accident,” Will told Variety. “So to see his entire life laid out so poetically and cinematically has been a real gift for me.”

The documentary will be released in theatres this fall, with a special encore screening on Christopher Reeve’s birthday, Sept. 25, thanks to a collaboration between DC Studios and Fathom Events.

DC Honours a Superman Legacy

The decision to include Will Reeve in the film comes at a time when DC Studios is investing deeply in reviving and honouring the Superman legacy. While Christopher Reeve’s likeness was controversially used via CGI in 2023’s The Flash without the family’s direct involvement, Will’s cameo in Gunn’s Superman represents a more collaborative and heartfelt tribute.

Although DC Studios declined to comment on the cameo, the symbolic nature of Will’s inclusion speaks volumes. As James Gunn works to rebuild the DC Universe, incorporating the Reeve legacy is not only respectful—it’s heroic.
