Halsey invokes “The Boss” Bruce Springsteen for her latest album promo
Halsey is embracing her roots in the lead-up to her highly anticipated fifth studio album, The Great Impersonator. As a native of Edison, New Jersey, Halsey has always had a connection to the Garden State’s musical legends. Now, she’s paying homage to one of the most iconic figures from her home state — Bruce Springsteen.
Halsey took to Instagram to announce that one of the songs on her new album, Letter to God (1983), was directly inspired by Springsteen. She shared photos in which she embodies the iconic singer, donning a jet-black hairdo, sideburns, and the quintessential blue jeans, replicating Bruce Springsteen’s famous Born in the U.S.A. photoshoot. In the images, Halsey is seen mid-air, guitar in hand, mimicking Springsteen’s signature rock-star leap.

The song Letter to God (1983) is the eighth track on The Great Impersonator, and according to Halsey, its inspiration “requires no explanation.” The track’s title reflects the year Bruce Springsteen’s landmark album Born in the U.S.A. was released, a project that cemented his reputation as “The Boss” and New Jersey’s favourite son. In her Instagram post, Halsey proudly stated, “I’m a Jersey girl :)” — a nod to her shared heritage with Springsteen.
Leading up to the album’s release on October 25, Halsey has been teasing fans with a creative social media campaign in which she impersonates different musical icons. Alongside Springsteen, she has channelled the likenesses of legends like Stevie Nicks, Dolores O’Riordan, Amy Lee, David Bowie, Cher, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, and Dolly Parton. Each impersonation has been accompanied by a snippet of a song inspired by that artist.
Halsey’s upcoming album promises to traverse various musical decades and genres, reflecting her diverse influences. Fans have already had a taste of The Great Impersonator through singles like “The End,” “Lucky,” and “Lonely Is the Muse.” The album follows 2021’s If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, which reached No. 2 on the Billboard 200.
As anticipation builds for her latest project, Halsey demonstrates her knack for reinventing herself while paying tribute to the icons who paved the way before her. When The Great Impersonator drops later this month, fans can expect a musical journey through time.
