Tiger Woods Steps Away for Treatment After DUI Arrest, Will Miss Masters

Tiger Woods has announced he will step away from professional golf to seek treatment following a recent driving under the influence (DUI) arrest. The 15-time Major champion shared the decision on March 31, stating his focus is now on recovery and overall well-being.

“I understand the seriousness of the situation,” Tiger Woods said in a statement, adding that taking time off is essential to return “healthier, stronger, and more focused.”

Masters 2026 Appearance Ruled Out

Following his announcement, Augusta National Golf Club confirmed that Woods will not participate in the upcoming Masters Tournament, scheduled for April 9–12.

The five-time Masters champion had initially been expected to attend, even if not competing. However, officials confirmed he will be absent entirely as he prioritizes his health.

Tiger Woods was arrested on March 27 after his vehicle reportedly rolled over on a road near his home in Florida. Authorities stated that no one else was injured in the incident.

According to official reports, Woods appeared disoriented at the scene, with officers noting signs of impairment. While he passed a breathalyzer test, he declined further testing. Court documents show that Woods has pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge and requested a jury trial.

His next court date is scheduled for May, although he may not be required to appear in person before trial proceedings begin.

Ongoing Health Challenges

The latest development adds to a series of physical challenges Woods has faced in recent years. The golf legend has undergone multiple surgeries, including several procedures on his back and leg, following a serious car accident in 2021.

Despite these setbacks, Woods had recently returned to competitive play, participating in events that required less physical strain. He had been working toward regaining fitness for a potential Masters appearance before the incident occurred.

Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley expressed support for Tiger Woods, emphasizing that the golfer’s well-being takes priority. The broader golf community has also rallied behind the veteran athlete, acknowledging both his contributions to the sport and the personal challenges he is navigating.

As one of the most influential figures in golf history, Tiger Woods’ absence from the Masters will be deeply felt. However, his decision to step away signals a commitment to long-term recovery rather than short-term competition.

Tiger Woods’ withdrawal from the Masters marks a significant moment in his career, underscoring the importance of health and accountability. While his return to golf remains uncertain, fans and peers alike will be watching closely as he focuses on recovery and the next chapter of his journey.
